Winter Mid-Season Recognition Countdown: Steve’s Biasness at its Best. Co
Steve: Hello. This is Steve with your mid-season review. I would like to take a moment to say that I beat Minnie at posting for once. Anyways, I am doing this to increase my post counts to state what I think of this sleepy Winter season. Despite the Winter Season having a lot of uninteresting shows, there are a couple of worthy mentions. Warning: Steve biasness is extremely high. Proceed with caution.
According to our blog’s list of animu, our team is currently blogging 28 shows in all. That is a lot of shows. However, this list includes animu that continue from previous season like ToraDora. If we subtract those, our team is then blogging 16 animu. From this group of 16, I am in charge of blogging three- SoraKake, Asu No Yoichi, and Akikan. However, this does not mean that I am only watching three shows. That is far from the truth. I am watching almost everything so I am able to rank all these animu in order of how much I enjoy them. This countdown will not include anime that are continuing from earlier seasons. Anyways, enjoy! (Note: It’s so nice to steal screen shots from my teammates. I love you people)
11. Chrome Shelled Regios
Steve: A perfect placement for an anime that I dislike and yet I still watch. Chrome Shelled Regios has terrible music, generic characters, and a semi-cliche plot. Worst, unlike Asu No Yoichi, Regios tries to hide the fact that it’s a harem anime in a school setting. There are times I wonder- how can this anime last for 26 episodes?
Steve: Yes, Akikan beats Regios because I am blogging it. Akikan has ugly graphics, weird animation, lousy music, and stupid characters. Every episode seems forced and cliche. The humor is not funny half the time. The only reason why I rate this higher than Regios is because at least this show has Kakeru, the outrageous perverted protagonist, to make up for everything else. I watch this show to see what new sexual innuendo/joke Kakeru can come up with next.
Steve: Kurokami has an amazing start, but it goes terribly downhill from there. The protagonist is annoying as hell and the heroine is not that great either. Even though I am shocked at how cliche this anime is, I can’t help but agree that at least, it has a solid background story and animation. That is enough for it to be Number 9.
8. White Album
Steve: I have a love/hate relationship with White Album. Aside from Mana and Rina, I hate every other character. That is never a good sign. In defense of White Album, though, I like how subtle the characters are with their feelings and actions. I don’t feel like I need to be spoonfed every bit of information. The music is also very pleasant in this anime and the graphics are pretty to look at. If only they can kill Touya, I will be happy to rate this anime higher.
7. Hetalia Axis Powers
Steve: At first, I didn’t like this anime. It feels awkward. With time, I learn that it’s not that bad. Actually, a lot of the jokes are hilarious. I am beginning to see why Minnie blogs this 5-minute show. The characters are amazing as well. Stereotypes for comical purpose for the win!
6. Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo
Steve: I love this show in a twisted way. I admit that it’s crazy and makes no sense half the time. To make up for it, it has a nice cast of characters that always make me laugh at how stupid/bizarre they are. Leopard is God. I swear, this Lelouch-talking machine should have his own talk show. Aside from the characters, the graphics are unbelievable. I love the character designs and mech designs a lot. I wish they have more action, but then again, I will lose a lot of Leopard’s special moments. I can’t get everything eh?
Steve: This show has a lot of pros and cons all in one. For the pros, this show is stunning. The characters are beautiful and the scenary is incredible. The music is very good and I enjoy the BGM a lot (more than the OP and ED). There is also an interesting plot that manages to suck you in easily. The cons? This show tries too hard to put a lot of political aspects all into a 9-episode anime. Where as Ride Back succeeds at this, Munto does not. Instead, it just confuses the viewers and puts them off from continuing.
4. Asu No Yoichi!
Steve: No, you are not blind. Asu No Yoichi, the harem anime of the season, is my fourth favorite show this season. This tells you a lot about the others right? Anyways, I love this show. I really do. I enjoy the complicated love triangles and the storytelling. I enjoy every single episode I watch so far. This is fanservice I enjoy because it is done right and in a humorous manner. Yoichi is a joy to watch every episode because he is not a wimpy protagonist. He is a samurai and one who can get away with grabbing boobs and asses every episode! That is a real man!
3. Kemono no Souja Erin
Steve: What can I say about this show? It’s amazing. Absolutely amazing. This is probably the most underrated show of the Winter Season in the same manner as Casshern SINS of Fall. Every episode is packed with emotions thus far. I also enjoy learning about the lifestyle of these people who coexist with Toudas, these dragon-like creatures. The heroine Erin is also memorable for being both brave, innocent, and kind-hearted. Every single time I look at these graphics, I am glad I watch this anime. Fifty episodes is definitely worth the watch.
2. Maria Holic
Steve: I adore traps and I adore traps done this well. Shaft is back again with its newest product- Maria Holic. In the past, I love all its shows from the ~ef~ series to Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. This show is no exception. With a handful of cute, memorable cast of female characters, I watch their interaction with awe and a smile on my face. Kanako is such a perverted lesbian that she has become one of my favorite female characters this season. Other than Kanako, Mariya and Matsurika are always up to something and I laugh every time they show up. Not only are the characters awesome, the graphics and music are good too. This is a worthy anime.
1. Ride Back
Steve: The winner is none other than Ride Back. Back when our team was picking shows to blog, Minnie and I were the only one interested in watching and blogging this anime. Now, half of the team is watching and enjoying this show every week. Unfortunately, I don’t get the honor of blogging this show since Marissa took over but I still lusts over it like a horny teenger. I love this show. There’s nothing else I can say to demonstrate how much I enjoy this show. Every aspect of it is entertaining. It is the anime I look forward to every week. Most of all, I think I have a crush on the heroine Rin…
What are your favorites of the season thus far? For the mid-season, this is my countdown. Will the list change by the end of the season? Most likely. I embrace change. Bring it. A shoutout to my wonderful blog leader Minnie! Keep up the good work! We all know how hard you work! And I am definitely not doing this to suck up. Have a nice day everyone. Steve out.
