Miken: Bah, other than my distaste at fanservice this early, I’m still positive about this show. This is perhaps the first GONZO show I’ve forced myself to watch in a while (seeing that I completely dismissed all the ones from last year). My last outing with this studio was Romeo x Juliet, and it left a rather bad taste in my mouth to see the play get ripped to shreds and reassembled backwards — and I’m not that much of a fan of Shakespeare either!

But I digress, Shangri-La really isn’t THAT bad.

Summary: Kuniko, in line to be the next leader of the Metal-Age, has just gotten out of 2 years at a correctional facility, and is already out making trouble again. In Atlas, Lolis go around ruling companies that charge people for Carbon Credits and such, much like the proposed plans of certain world leaders in real life today. Not long into the episode, some “partying” to celebrate Kuniko’s return by a buncha rebels brings in the military as the carbon prices are forced up again. The town gets hit with no previous warning and, true to her action girl archetype, Kuniko finds herself a nice high wall to yell at the military from. Then, with the grace of Spiderman, she leaps down and fights after speaking to the military, blocking bullets with her boomerang (Guy, looks like you’ve got competition). It also seems that all three forces (Religious, Rebellious and Military) have a similar sword that starts reacting once one is hit — in this case, with Kuniko’s boomerang. Then, black matter falls to the sky and begins to destroy everything. And that is the end of this series.

Notes: The art style isn’t groundbreaking, but it serves its purpose. The rounded style fits lolis more anyways. Still, the CG sticks out like a sore thumb, though it works well enough and isn’t so central to the animation that it needs to be that well-detailed… The OP song is pretty good, but not being that much of a fan of May’n, I can’t say much other than that. The ED is okay, but forgettable at best.

The poor soldier, he won’t live to tell what happens next.

A Momoko-san should be sent to every rebel faction. That’d end this whole conflict REAL FAST.

In other words, this anime is a giant anvil that Gonzo is dropping on our heads.
