Eden of the East Episode 10: “Tell Me Takizawa. Who Are You?”

Who made Saki cry? :( </3 Tears and lots of information ahead!

Who made Saki cry? :(

Minnie: Thanks to TZM last week I didn’t have to blog Eden of the East all the way. Hopefully this week, I’ll manage to blog it all the way without coming down with a stupid cold. XD This is the second to last episode so I’ll try to fangirl as much as I can before the last episode. And the movie! How long do I have to wait for it to come out? :( Oh well. I have this episode to take care of for now~

Minnie’s Overall Rating for Episode: 9/10

Minnie’s Anticipation for Next Episode: 10/10

Thoughts: Akira is not a bad guy after all. Thank goodness! The real twist this episode is really the fact that Mr. Outsider is dead. The second twist is that NEETS are back and they’re acting like naked zombies. XD There’s still a chance of Sakira happening though. Let’s hope for the best Sakira fans!

In-Depth Fangirling:

No offense to all the shoujo manga that all have this same scene somewhere in the end but somehow Eden of the East made it better with fewer words and in a shorter time period. There are plenty of chemistry and emotions between the two leads as well and this isn’t even a romance anime. Well done, IG well done. The music… the camera angel… everything is fitting to demonstrate the separation between Akira and Saki. Then again, this might be just me, being a huge Sakira fan and all.Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_01_05 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_01_22 PM

This part nearly made me really sad because it reminded me of Bokura ga Ita, which in my opinion had the best train scene ever.  Yano is the one on the train and Nanami is the one off the train. I can so see these two doing it too with these screen shots. Akira had to stay behind while Saki has to leave. Even though it’s only a day of separation, they will continue to think of each other. T__T Look at Saki’s sad face at Akira not being with her. :( Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_01_41 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_01_57 PM

I don’t want to be mean to Ohsugi since he’s not doing much this episode but must he be more of a stalker than he already is? First, the million phone calls. Now, the million text messages to bother Saki. I know some people call Saki cruel for not returning any of his messages but think of it in her shoes for a second. Can you imagine how many times Ohsugi might have bothered her before the anime started? What do girls do when guys bother them too much? They start to act cold and ignore the idiot. I feel for Saki more than Ohsugi. When a girl’s not interested, the more you bother her the worse it gets. >__<Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_02_16 PM

There is something very appealing about Mononobe hitting his phone against his hand while walking up to Akira. One, it shows that he’s a bit impatient. Most of all though, it seems like he’s counting the hours in his head. It’s like time is an issue for him right now and he must be ahead of time for something. Later, we discover that time is on his mind because of one major reason…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_02_38 PM

The scene is symbolic to me. Look at how they’re standing. They are standing opposed to one another while talking about being the hero or not being the hero. Obviously, the scene is trying to depict Akira as the hero while Mononobe is not. They are on opposite ends of this game and they both discover ways to win. How will this unfold?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_03_25 PM

Okay. This line is also very interesting. Remember how Panties was chasing after Akira last episode to tell him about something very important? It’s because Panties saw on screen what Mononobe and his partners are planning to do in several hours. Akira can’t see this because it’s not registered through the phone anymore because well, they’ve taken over the Juiz system, as you will see later on. In other words, the other Selecaos have no idea what’s going on either because they can’t see how much Mononobe and his friends are paying for the missile attacks. Will Akira be the only one to stop them? Or… Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_03_43 PM

Urm no. Wait. This is Akira we’re talking about. Akira is not afraid of some four-eyed dude like you threatening him. He has nothing to lose really or so he thinks. But why should Akira go with you? What’s in it for him?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_03_59 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_04_17 PM

Okay, okay. Mononobe knows exactly what Akira wants to know above else- the reason why he erased his own memories- and is going to use this to lure him to go along with them. I don’t like this one bit. I don’t get it Akira. Why must you always tackle these situations on your own? :( Is it because you don’t want to get anyone else involved?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_04_41 PM

Because Akira is about to hang up on Saki, she has to reveal that she knows the truth behind the phone. Smart move Saki. Actually, you should have told him this a lot earlier…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_04_59 PM

Oh and of course, we can’t forget that part. Saki is still bothered about seeing Akira with that women in a hotel room…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_05_34 PM

As depicted here, Saki is not as gullible and clueless as she made out to be. We have to keep in mind that it is her that the Eden of the East system is working so well right now. She can’t be that dumb right? I’m glad she said this line because I am sick of all the Saki haters. >__> Akira might be awesome but Saki is nearly as awesome. Both of them need the other and you’ll see why later on (I hope).Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_06_01 PM

Micchon wants to know what’s up. She knows that Saki rarely calls Ohsugi on the phone so it must be Akira on the other line! Smart thinking Micchon. By the way, she’s so cute. :P Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_07_10 PM

“Tell me Takizawa. Who are you?” -Saki

Saki wants to know who Akira really is. She wants to understand more about him. How can a relationship work with them in the future if she can’t understand and trust him now?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_07_41 PM

Instead of denying everything Saki just told him, Akira tells her how he really feels and what he really thinks. He believes that he’s actually a criminal before his brainwipe. He truly believes that he might not be a good person before this. I applaud Akira for this. He could have easily lied to Saki but he chooses not to. Out of everyone, he wants her to know the truth about himself even if it means…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_08_48 PM

“But if I turn out to be a criminal, just forget about me. At this rate, I’ll be out of your life.” -Akira

…Even if it means they will go their separate ways. This is true sacrifice in my opinion. It’s stupid and it’s reckless but it’s also love isn’t it? :( Akira is gentlemanly to Saki to the very end, even when he’s headed to an unknown place with a dangerous Selecao. He is ashamed to face her and more than that, he doesn’t want to drag her into a terrible dillema because of his past. If he turns out to be a bad person, he can’t allow Saki to hang around with someone like him. Since they share the past week together, she of all people deserve to know who he really is. Knowing Saki, she will accept him no matter what but Akira doesn’t want that. He wants her to stay out of trouble and that is the Akira we all know and love. He will sacrifice his own happiness to protect her.

I really love this couple T__T and I love this development T___T

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_11_03 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_11_39 PM

The data really did go to Micchon and the Eden of the East system. Even from the grave, Panties is such an amazing person. How will this data go into play for the last episode of the anime? We’ll just have to see.Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_12_08 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_12_24 PM

Anyways, in order for Saki to know who Akira really is before his memory wipe, Akira allows her to listen on his conversation with Mononobe. This is complete trust right here. If only these two have been like this from the beginning, they would have been a couple by now.

In any case, Saki will know everything by the end of this episode and whether she chooses to be with Akira as well as help him will be up to her. I hope Saki will make the right decision. Akira has left himself open and vulnerable right now. Will Saki accept Akira’s trust?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_13_19 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_13_53 PM

LMAO! I love the confused bubble on top of Akira’s head at the discovery of the pun! Honey and Clover! Honey and Clover! XD Man, I need to go rewatch that anime in the future… ^__^

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_17_19 PM

“I suppose that for Mr. Outside, giving a youth like you money and power, letting a demonic serial killer do her thing, and allowing a warmonger to carry out missile strikes are completely reasonable ways to save Japan.” -Mononobe

I love that quote so much that I had to include it. Anyways, so Akira was right (if we can trust Mononobe on this information) in saying that the person who gave everyone this money to spend is an old geezer using his retirement money. XD The thing is he can’t punch him because well, he’s dead? Maybe?

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_17_36 PM

Akira really likes to speak his mind despite the consequences. Maybe that’s why I love Akira so much too?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_18_03 PM

See? I wasn’t lying. :P In any case, Akira can’t punch him if he’s dead right? The thing is… he might not be dead because then… how will this game end? And why would the Supporter stain blood on his hands for a dead person? Too many questions that Mononobe is not answering…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_18_51 PM

Nice plan Mononobe but you do know that the Supporter killed Selecao 4 right? How can you carry out this plan when the Supporter is on the loose? Do you really think that Akira is the Supporter just because he opposed your previous plans with Selecao 10? I guess only the viewers notice Mononobe’s flaw…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_21_02 PM

Yup. It’s the pretty boy. He’s the EVIL one! :P Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_21_23 PM

GASP! Not the pretty boy~!Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_21_58 PM

This turns out to be really important scene even though I didn’t expect it to be when I watched it earlier. Who knew that Juiz who usually followed orders so obediently would suddenly violate the rules? This is crucial and I’ve been trying to figure it out since last night when I watched this episode…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_22_18 PM

The Selecao that’s only here to look cool and has like two lines in all. :P I guess he doesn’t care whether he dies or not either… XDScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_22_36 PM

When I heard this, I suddenly realize something. Most of the Selecaos can’t hear the others talking on the phone wtih Juiz. Like for example, when my mom talks on the phone about me, I can only hear her side of the conversation. It’s the same with this anime. Even though all of us can hear Juiz, the other Selecaos can’t. This is the first time Akira realizes that it’s the same voice speaking to everybody. Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_24_20 PM

“I’ve got this image in my head of a bunch of girls in some huge room and they’re all lined up and ready to take our requests.” -Akira

Sorry Akira to destroy your wonderful mental image but it’s actually this huge machine you’re standing on and dancing around on that’s Juiz! The reason why I really adore this scene is that everyone else is standing around being stiff and stuffy while Akira is being such a free spirit and jumping around like a kid. It’s so cute!! Akira is really awesome. I can’t describe how amazing he is. He really stands out everywhere he goes (placing his foot on the table with the Eden of the East group and running around naked at Washington DC!) and I’m glad he’s doing the same here with these serious Selecaos.

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_24_50 PM

I hate that word but I know Mononobe meant it in a good way… or so I think. Anyways, I better stop myself from going on a rant about how much I hate the word ‘unique’. It’s almost as much fail as the word ‘good’. Kids. Those of you in high school, remember this important lesson: never ever use the word ‘good’ or ‘unique’ in an essay. However, if you do want to stop a conversation, the word ‘unique’ is one of your best weapons. :P Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_26_05 PM

He has no fear in his eyes or regret in his voice when he said this. I hate him. :) Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_26_21 PM

Hm…. at least you know it’s not Akira! >____< It’s them I tell you! It’s them. Akira is innocent! He’s the good guy here. :( T__T Though the rest of Eden of the East think otherwise………. >_________>Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_26_55 PM

You wish. If someone as intelligent as Light failed, you guys will too. It’s not that easy being dictator of the world. I also love how Selecao 10 tries to look innocent in this shot when he’s the one behind everything. I guess he grew a bit as an evil character after killing Panties? Speaking of Panties…. T_________TScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_27_14 PM

It is SOOOOOOOOOOO like Akira to point his finger at them like this. This boy really has no sense of fear at all. I haven’t seen him afraid of anything really throughout this entire anime. Even in front of three soon-to-be messiahs, he doesn’t give a damn. He’s going to tell them off with no minced words either! Go Akira!Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_28_02 PM

Selecao 10′s sob story. Skip please?Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_28_43 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_56_42 PM

I love this dude’s reason for aligning with the other two. Selecao 2 is bored with this game and he wants to move on with his life so he ends it with this missile plan. He even spits on the Juiz machine without a second though! I can’t decide whether he’s the worst or best character in this show thus far. But one thing is for sure- he can’t be anywhere in between. :P Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_57_01 PM

Do it Akira. Do it. I back you up on this. ;) Actually, you should just push them all into that hole in the middle of the room… and then return to Saki and marry her. :) Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_57_17 PM

Best news ever. This basically tells us that before the memory wipe, Akira acts like he does now. Akira… I’m so glad you were still yourself before the memory wipe. What a great character you are. I guess it confirms it. He can’t be a bad guy now can he? But what exactly happened to Akira…

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_57_56 PM

o_______________________O NO WAY! >_< Liar liar! Pants on fire. :( It can’t be true… please tell me it’s not true…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_58_27 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_03_46 PM

Bad people bad! How dare you think Takizawa=Selecao 10. :( This is so sad… with every passing minute of this episode, less people believe in Akira and his goodness… It’s all because of stupid, jealous Ohsugi here! GR!Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 7_59_31 PM

ZOMBIES! Wait a second. They’re not zombies! They’re naked NEETs that are extremely angry for being shipping to some desert! I love the white bubbles. Lmao! So much win in this shot alone. XD How will their return play a role in the last episode? Please make it epic like Zombie NEETs versus Selecao 1/2/10. =3Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_00_25 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_00_41 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_00_58 PM

Sakira moment. :( And a sad one too. Even though everyone close to Akira right now believes he’s a criminal, at least Saki knows the truth. He’s not a criminal. He’s not a bad person. He’s just one reckless, courageous boy who wants to save everybody but instead, gets betrayed by them. Saki knows that even though she’s crying buckets of tears, Akira is probably crying more on the inside to hear what happened to him in the past (assuming that Mononobe is not lying). These two feel for each other right now and it’ll be cruel if they don’t end up together after everything that has happened to them…Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_01_21 PM

Or so you think… muahahahaha. =3 Akira will foil your plans! Oh wait. He’s sad right now then… then… Juiz will!Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_01_46 PM

Wait. I’m not kidding. She will foil their plans! This woman… sounds… like… JUIZ! Even if she’s not the real Juiz, OMG JUIZ You’re HERE <33333333333333333333333333333333 You’re so awesome! You’re my hero! You have her voice! You’re incredible! Can you become my secretary and carry out my plans to take over the world please? :P <3 I’ll pay you with lots of Minnie love <3Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_02_15 PMScreenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_02_32 PM

These three just got… OWNED!!! I finally get to say that in a blog entry! Hahahahaha! Take that Mononobe! Selecao 12 just owned all of you. If Selecao 12 turns out to be Juiz, I’ll laugh. I’ll laugh so  much. =3 Anyways, I love what happened here. They want to cheat the system but using Juiz so the other person simply moved Juiz away from them. :P Good job! Let’s see if you guys can go through with your plans now~Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 8_02_52 PM

AKIRA T_____________________T You poor thing! Can’t someone magically teleport Saki to him so she can comfort him with her Saki powers and make all the Sakira fans happy? And where is Akira going? :( This is such a sad scene. Will the returned NEETs be on his side after he rescued them? Please say so! He needs their zombie powers right about now!

Next episode: The Finale! Will everything be resolved? Will Sakira happen? Let’s cross our fingers guys!

I would like to ask you why you fault Ohsugi? Let’s assumed that I’m Ohsugi and you’re Saki if I care about you and I find out that the guy you are going out with use alias and is connected to something dangerous or could be a potential terrorist then should I call you and warn you about it or just leave it be because I think you’re a bitch and deserved what’s coming to you? Sure Ohsugi is boring and Akira is fun so I don’t blame you for liking him but does Ohsugi deserved the hate for showing that he cares? Also if I like a girl and I find out that she’s going out with another guy I would certainly want to check out my competition and since I have the Eden system then why not check him out; it’s not like I put a phone tab on the two of them that would be stalking. Furthermore, once I find out that the guy uses alias and so my girl could be in danger I would investigated further taking some risks (the guy could be a terrorist after all). All this is called walking the extra miles for the girl that you care. Finally, acting nice to the guy when he’s around (like not say no when he ask you out for dinner) and then ignore his calls later on will only confuse him; sometimes with some men you just have to spell it out to them in their face or they will never get it. Well, this is nothing personal but I’m just surprised that there is so much hate for Ohsugi when he hasn’t done anything “yet” to deserve it. In fact, you should feel sorry for him for losing to a better man.

  2. moridin84 Says:

    Well

    1) http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DieForOurShip

    2) Ohsugi doesn’t have any positive points. Like, at all.

    3) The fact that he misses the fact that she has 0% interest in him and he constantly bothers her isn’t endearing either.

  3. Minnie Says:

In reply to noir: Everything moridin wrote is true. However, I’ll like to add something. Despite me having a ton of reasons for hating Ohsugi, the first time I truly hate him is when he announces out loud in front of the Eden of the East group that if they accept Akira in the group, he won’t be part of the group anymore. Keep in mind that he did this before he found out anything about Akira. With that in mind, even if Ohsugi didn’t find out that Akira is a “criminal” later on, he would still have been an ass about Akira being with Saki. He just so happens to discover something about Akira that may hurt his relationship with Saki so he doesn’t have to dig up dirt some other way. I hope I made things clear with my paragraph.

There is one thing I completely agree with you though. Saki should not have accepted that restaurant invitation at all (even if she did it out of boredom at the time) because it gave Ohsugi some false hope, which is bad.

  4. Faded Love Says:

There was so much in this episode. Minnie, great posting!

First and most important to me was the great sequence with the train. Saki is really making a breakthrough, coming clean with Akira about what she knows and asks him the key question — the title of Minnie’s post — “…Who are you?”. It’s just great that this is happening with Saki moving apart from Akira on the train… but moving closer to him over the phone.

The train situation makes it so clear that Akira could, at any turn, just exit from her life. That’s symbolically shown as the train’s door closes between them and literally explicit with his comment that he will just disappear from her life if he turns out to be a criminal.

And I liked that Saki let Micchon listen in to this last part over the phone — now she has (probably) a pro-Akira ally among the Eden crew. And with Micchon on board, this could be a most powerful force… to realize a Sakira happy path.

Akira keeps a certain distance, doesn’t he? It’s just as he says, “I think I’m suspicious too.” So I believe he is taking care to not get Saki and the others too tied up in his mysterious affairs.

I’m wondering if Panties has posthumously sent not just phone logs, but the entire Society Computer software over to Eden. Wouldn’t that be interesting? I’m hoping for some (Micchon + Society Computer) juggernaut to emerge in the next episode. Maybe as part of a power balance with Juiz. /imagination runs wild/ /hyperventilates/

The whole thing with Juiz here… totally FTW. When Mononobe and Akira first show up at the research center in Harima, there were those two big tractor-trailer rigs just pulling out. Was that AI-Juiz making her departure? And to have IRL-Juiz as well… that’s just too good. I’m pulling for the idea that IRL-Juiz is no. 12 and that she has direct access to and operates AI-Juiz. IRL-Juiz could of course be the Supporter. There’s some logic in that, but I’m hoping it’s not the case. It could also be that the supporter is some aspect, a subprogram, of AI-Juiz. Many interesting possibilities.

  5. Faded Love Says:

Here’s a shot of the two trucks just pulling out from the ATO Neuroscience research center. You can see Mononobe and Akira just arriving over to the right. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3302/3626709602_5cb20fe2b8.jpg?v=0

These show that the load is a single large cylinder, one on each trailer. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3321/3626708516_316ea8658f.jpg?v=0 and http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3587/3625894467_304e6d1c53.jpg?v=0

Would these just fit in those large cylindrical holes in the ‘control room’?

  6. Shay Guy Says:

Lulz at “By all means please do the sheet belt.” Wonder if that’s from an actual chopper.

I really need to be keeping better track of the timeline. I should make or look for a log of all Selecao transactions that are shown. What date was this episode? Was XII’s one 5000-yen transaction made during its events? …Yeah, both the log and X’s watch say 2-18. (When was episode 1, again?) So does the half-an-hour-ago transaction from XII’s log refer to IRL!Juiz, the Juiz system, or what?

I am quite certain that “IRL!Juiz” was used as the “template” for the Juiz system. The latter IS kept at a neuroscience research facility. Now the only question is what her connection to Mr. Outside is.

I also don’t get what exactly happened with the “betrayal.” Is it just me, or was that kinda vague? And I had thought the NEETs had already made their ways back, but maybe it was just that one we saw earlier.

One episode and a movie left! (And Akira’s still alive, woo.) Personally, I think Saki and Eden have a bigger role to play than they already have.

  7. Minnie Says:

To Faded Love: Thanks for your comments and those screen shots! Nice catch! An anime like Eden of the East won’t show two trucks for no reason right? :P

I really love your line about how “Saki moving apart from Akira on the train… but moving closer to him over the phone” because it’s so true. The train really is symbolic. From here on out, I think that Sakira will either have no chance at all (but Ohsugi won’t win) or win out in the end. I’m hoping for the latter because both of them are honest to each other and growing from one another from this episode alone. I’m glad Micchon listen in on the convention too. Will it be Micchon+Saki vs the rest of Eden of the East? I can’t wait to see how that plays out.

The entire Societal Computer software would be insane. @_@ It’ll be like Yuki Nagato explaining things all over again! XD

I’m so hyped about the Juiz thing at the end. I don’t know about you but that women with Juiz’s voice looks pretty sharp. She might be up to something =3 I hope she’s not the Supporter since I want a huge twist but I guess we’ll have to wait until next episode?

To Shay Guy: That line is epic out of context. XD

I didn’t keep track of the timeline either… it would come in handy now would it? T__T

That is one possibility- IRL Juiz being the voice and the caretaker of the system but who knows? That woman was awesome nevertheless. XD

Well, they purposely left the betrayal explanation out. I’ll die if they don’t include it in the next episode! I want to know why Akira wiped his memory! It’s the biggest mystery (IMO) so that one must be resolved before the movie or else…

I’m so excited too! I know some people say that Saki is kind of useless but she’s not. She sees the anime world for the audience (providing a prologue in the first episode no less) so she’s important! Plus, something big is going to happen and Saki will be part of it! Watch~ ^__^

  8. NocandNC Says:

Just to make a note about Ohsugi and how Saki had (but should not have) accepted his dinner proposal, when asking her out he had explicitly said that they should have dinner to celebrate getting jobs. So while Saki was misleading for accepting, Ohsugi was also misleading with his invite. If he thought it was a date, he should have said so outright. Otherwise, the girl you’ve been friends with for years and hasn’t started dating you yet will just think it’s a celebratory dinner with a good friend >.>…at least that’s how I’d see it, being a girl and all.

So this episode was great. There was Sakira development, we found out a whole bunch of things regarding Mr.Outside and the missiles and where Akira stands in all of this. We also have the return of the NEETs, the other EoTE members start to read up on the phone logs but get the wrong idea, and we also got to see IRL!Juiz! Am I the only one who’s thinking she’s an android or robot of sorts? Because that would be cool XD

Aw…sad Akira…! Sad Saki…! Sad Sakira! They need to reunite and hug each other and console one another because it’s just so sad T.T! And because Saki is a SMART girl, she can also help Akira figure out how to stop all those missiles from hitting Japan! Assuming those three Scelecao can still manage that with the loss of Juiz, that is.

  9. wyn Says:

You know, as much as I like Akira/Saki, this episode is not as romantic as you make it sound. And for good reason! We have here not only Saki’s development in regards to her selfish admittance and regret in wishing to change society through even more chaos, but more importantly the episode showed a very clear-cut critique towards society and Japan’s government.

I do agree that at the very least we get to see Akira and Saki opening up to each other, but more than anything else, we get to see them more as individuals here rather than as a “pairing”.

To NocandNC: Hmm… you’re right. I forgot about that. I can’t believe I was going to side with Ohsugi for once! >__< There’s actually a huge chance that IRLJuiz is an android or a robot, but I’m hoping they don’t go that route. I am glad for all the development in this episode plot-wise or character-wise. :) I’m guessing the missile plan failed but I don’t care about that. I want Sakira!

To wyn: I’m guessing this is the first post you read from me? It’s all right then. Most people know I write these posts as an excuse to fangirl for a couple I like or a character I adore. I like to exaggerate things and I like to going over the top even if I know it’s not really there. Why? Because it’s fun. :) If this were a discussion at a forum, then I wouldn’t do the same but since this is my own blog and I want to show what I think of certain events, this is how I blog. XD I hope you understand. I’m not saying you’re wrong because what you said is certainly true. I just hope you understand that you shouldn’t take my post seriously and feel offended by anything I say on here since it’s all done for fun. ^^

  11. wyn Says:

Uh, I wasn’t offended, really. Sorry if I sounded snappy there. Just stating an opinion. :) It just seemed like you were making Saki into some ditzy bimbo when she is definitely not.

  12. Minnie Says:

Oh okies. I’m glad then. XD No, I wasn’t trying to make her into some ditzy bimbo. XD Sorries about that!

  13. Faded Love Says:

To Shay Guy: You are so awesome for cross-checking on the phone log and Mononobe’s watch. Terrific! Ah, if you decide to make a log of the Selecao transactions, please share.

To Minnie: Yes, I’m really in love with the train bit. In the opening, we see Saki move off and away from Akira on her train. And at the end, Akira is alone moving away on his train. Akira is on the cold and sad train moving away from… everyone? /boo hoo!/ /sniffles/ /bawls/

And on Micchon and the Society Computer, “it’ll be like Yuki Nagato explaining things all over again!” *Uncontrollable LOLs*

To wyn: Ah good point on the importance of societal critique here. That’s clearly central to the whole context of the story. Thanks for bringing that into justifiable focus. For one, I’ve been so distracted with the Sakira dimension. Well, and I slotted into that tunnel-vision mindset ever since the beginning — when Akira rushes over to save our damsel from the cops — even though he is a naked amnesiac with just a phone and a gun. I mean was that the finest Anime opening in history — or what?

But I like how your observation fits in so well with the character types: Social Convention (Ohsugi), State Power (Ato, Mononobe), Heroic Individualist (Akira), Social Marginals (Panties… and all the NEETs), and Criminal (Shiratory, Koudou). All the characters have a strong social dimension, regardless of whether they are social-positive or social-negative. Of course there are some strong negatives who think they are positives!

I also feel like Saki is finally moving into a key position. /sinking back into delusory mental state after wyn’s brief groundedness/ I see her as the main character who has not declared herself as a type and from a character perspective her choice is the climax of the story. While Akira is searching for who he is, Saki is the one deciding who she is. From that perspective, she’s the most important character. Well, at least for me… :-)

  14. Faded Love Says:

It’s late and I’m musing on these character social types — a half-baked idea, no doubt. But jumping off from there, into an even deeper hole, I’m realizing I want a Tarot Deck with each of the Major Arcana cards illustrated by one Eden of the East characters.

Akira I think has to be Fool (innocence, beginning). In fact you could say that, whatever he was before, he’s intentionally converted to Fool, by having his memories erased. And the Fool is one of the best cards really and can always represent the one who quests. Ohsugi, Mr. convention, should be Hierophant. We could perhaps list X, Mr. Missile, as the Tower (upheaval, fall). The third Selecao with X and I, I forget his name, should be a shoo-in for Hanged Man (inaction, submission).

Justice (accountability) could be the Supporter. For our special Juiz, I have to choose Prietess (secretive, knowing, oracular). But she could play other cards. Mr. Outside, I think he’s the closest to Emperor — but we may want him aligned with Death as the agent of transition. There’s still some mystery there. Mononobe, I want to say, Devil since that’s the card most aligned with Ego… and Error.

But the big mystery… what card is Saki? Either Star, or better yet, Sun. Of course the Lovers — as yet unrealized — that’s Sakira. Please.

  15. Garrick Says:

Screenshot below one of the quotes….

    Believe it.

  16. Faded Love Says:

Garrick, is this a… spoiler? I mean, some kind of completely enigmatic and inscrutable hint of a wisp of a spoiler?

  17. Garrick Says:

Uhhh… no. Isn’t that just what Naruto says a lot in the English version of the anime?

    O_o

Or it could be. I don’t know.

It was the speech of one of the characters in one of the screenshots, that’s all. Found it… minimally amusing.

  18. Faded Love Says:

Ah, t’was merely the inscrutable Narutable. ^.^

  19. Shay Guy Says:

Okay, our first look at the transaction logs was in episode 2, when Kondo saw Akira’s request to get out of the terminal. Apparently, Saki and Akira returned to Japan on Monday, 14 February 2011. (Which will be a Monday, yes.) So now it’s Friday night of the same week. We’ve gone five days in ten episodes, with one episode and TWO MOVIES to go.

Question is how long it’ll be before those movies are subbed.

  20. Faded Love Says:

To Shay Guy: Wow! They’ve only been back in Japan for 5 days? Really, it’s hard to imagine the events with Kondo, the scene with Hajime, the arc with Shiratori, the all-too-brief arc with Panties, and the current meet-up with Mononobe all fitting in.

So excited to hear that there will be TWO movies.

  21. Minnie Says:

    Two movies> One movie. :) <3 >happy fangirl< Also, Koala, I thought the same thing. ;)

  22. Shay Guy Says:

Working backwards, because that’s how I examined these, looks like episodes eight through ten were all Friday. The Shiratori confrontation is shortly after midnight, Ohsugi is found, Ohsugi posts Akira’s picture to EOTE and discovers his fake names, all the Itazu stuff happens. Mononobe meets with Akira at night.

On Thursday, we’ve got episodes six and seven. Rapist dude is trapped in Shiratori’s room, Saki meets with Eden in Micchon’s jersey after staying the night with her, Akira meets up with Eden and offers to fund them, then after sunset, they find rapist dude’s posts, they think he’s Ohsugi, and Akira goes after Shiratori.

Wednesday is episode five, in which we have the cameo from the NEET with the fiancée from Dubai, “Uncle,” Saki’s job interview, and the abortive Ohsugi dinner. Then the Kiss, after which Saki spends the night at Micchon’s.

Akira looks for Hiura and finds him on Tuesday; they have their chat and Akira leaves just before the Supporter kills Hiura. This is episode four.

So episodes two and three are Monday, in which the plane comes in, they find the shopping mall, Akira screens the movie for Saki, Kondo beats him up and takes his phone. The last third or so of episode three is Tuesday morning, in which Saki leaves the mall and Hiura gets stabbed.

    It all adds up.

  23. Shay Guy Says:

Gah. That’s “Kondo gets stabbed.” D’oh.

  24. Faded Love Says:

Thanks, thanks, thanks, Shay Guy. I was exactly puzzling over this, but found it very confusing trying to sort the timeline for the first three episodes.

You were so smart to start from the end!

  25. dark Says:
