Sora no Manimani Episode 1: NODAME~! NODAME NODAME!

Is it possible for me to say I am in love with this female lead from a single episode?

Is it possible for me to say I am in love with this female lead from a single episode?

Minnie: This is a miracle but I believe this is one of the few anime I am blogging by myself this season! Isn’t that amazing? It’s totally different than when I had to blog 9-10 anime per season! Of course, that wasn’t a team blog back then but a partner blog… Still, I am so glad that the blog has grown so much that I am able to only need to blog 3 anime per season. I love the workload but sometimes, I need a break too. This summer season looks like a sleeper but at least here is one interesting anime for me to blog about!

Minnie’s Overall Rating for Episode: 9/10

Minnie’s Anticipation for Next Episode: 9/10

Thoughts: What a hilarious and light-hearted first episode! I absolutely loved it. ^_^ I don’t even know why but Mihoshi reminds me of Nodame so it’s total love right off the bat. I also love how fun this first episode is (unlike others which didn’t draw you in at all) and how it nicely introduces all the characters, especially the two leads. I like how this anime is based around astronomy and how there’s going to be romance thrown in along with plenty of comedy. Everything about this first episode from Mihoshi and Saku’s first meeting to Mihoshi’s obvious jealousy over any girl who would even look at Saku is right up my alley. I love to blog a weird combo between romance+drama+comedy and this one may lack the drama, but it sure hit the romance and comedy right on the head. More please!

I love her reasoning! Of course, if you like those damn books more than stars, you’re automatically a weirdo! Shame on you fools who spend your time reading in your rooms when you can be outside! Shame, shame, shame! Jokes aside, I love how firm she is about her beliefs. She is also really simple-minded from this line alone. One of the many reasons why she reminds me of the outstanding Nodame. Nodame <3

This screen shot proves that we need more @_@ faces in anime because they’re funny to watch! Laugh people laugh! It’s funny isn’t it? XD Gosh, his face… wth. ^_^;;

You know what they say… when a boy dreams about a girl this much… he must be harboring unrequited, in-denial feelings for her! Of all the people he could have dreamed about, guess who Saku dreamed about on the night before he had to go to school at his old town? :P Man, look at that arm. Are you reliving your childhood already?

Here comes the best mom ever. Not really but she’s pretty darn awesome. A character must be doing something right when she only appears on screen for a few minutes and I love her to death already. I can see why Saku is so afraid of hyper girls though, seeing as how his mother is the same. XD Overly dramatic and emotional mothers for the win!

Must resist how adorable this picture is >////////< If I’m not a strong shipper of solid pairings, I would be going fangirl on this one screen shot alone. These two little kids make such an adorable couple! Omg! I love it when the girl is taller than the guy too <3 Too bad that’s going to change later on…

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_43_01 PM

That would have been amazing if this really did happen XDDDDDDD Some anime somewhere! Make this happen please!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_46_18 PM

For all those who watch Fruits Basket:

This is the moment when Kagura reunites with Kyo after all those months of him gone missing. You know some crap is going to happen to Kyo or Saku in this case but you can’t help but smile at how slow he realizes this before it’s too late. Muahahahahahaha!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_49_23 PM

After years of not seeing each other, someone is able to recognize Saku within seconds of him saying her nickname out loud. Man, that’s true love I tell you! Hehe~ In any case, she’s awesome and well, she’s going to prove how awesome she is in a few seconds if she hasn’t already by raining the school with pretty, pretty stars~

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_50_00 PM

The minute I saw her, I was mentally thinking that she hasn’t changed at all since they were kids. Then, just when I thought that and typed that to my friend, Saku thought the same thing! I don’t know about you but I find it kind of cool that Saku and I are in sync.

Nodame+Chiaki-type of relationship for the win!!!!!!!!! <33333333333333333333333333 Go get your man Mihoshi woot!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_51_31 PM

The dramatic, loving tackle of doom! It must be done in a romantic comedy such as this! Guess who’s the tsundere in this relationship? I’ll give you a hint. It’s not the person doing the tackling in this screen shot.

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_52_21 PM

Mishoshi! Don’t make such a face! You’re melting my frozen cold heart! :( But in all seriousness, I love her beautiful face right here because it brought tiny tears to my eyes. She is so awesome… both hyper and sweet and yeah… I’m getting good Nodame vibes ^________^ I want a Nodame version 2~

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_52_48 PM

Saku, you know you like it so stop whining you baby. :P Stop being so tsundere to her and give in already! Oh wait. Then the story wouldn’t be fun anymore would it? Then again, it’s been chapters and Chiaki is still being super tsundere to Nodame. :(

This boy knows how to make friends. He turns around, says hello, and gets himself a friend. I like him. I like your straightforwardness my boy that I can’t recall the name of!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_55_47 PM

Mihoshi is such a lovable stalker~! I love you! Go and keep stalking your man from across the school from two-story buildings! I’m wooting for you even though it’s only been the first episode!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_58_33 PM Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_58_00 PM

This relationship has become a hide and seek game and I’m loving it! Guess who I’m wooting for? Of course, the girl with the teary, bubbly eyes! Boo the male tsundere. Lose already~

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 10_59_07 PM

I think we have a winner~~~~~~~~~ Lesson learned: When you have a stalker for a childhood friend, nowhere is safe… not even the library. Another lesson learned: Do not hide somewhere as obvious as the library when your childhood friend knows you have a fetish for books. All in all, nice try Saku but she’s just too good. I swear… she’s a ninja! An excellent ninja in disguise! Hehe~

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_00_11 PMScreenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_00_48 PM

When you don’t want your man to leave, the best way to use force and knock him over. That’s the way to go Mihoshi! I knew you wouldn’t be the usually weak and useless girls who are so stupid and submissive. When you want something, you try your best to get it! Even if it means straddling on him in the middle of the hallway and screaming out things that no one understand but you two. Exclusive much? ;)

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_01_16 PM

Despite being so assertive and aggressive, Mihoshi is so cute as well. I am fangirling over her much aren’t I? Well, she deserves it! Not only did she knock over her man and force him into submission, she’s using her sob story to keep him around. Either, she is very honest or very manipulative. I don’t mind either really. I just find it hilarious and sad at the same time (contradiction yay)!

Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_02_09 PMScreenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_02_34 PM

As much as I can relate where Saku is coming from, I just giggle here. He’s such a drama queen and a tsundere to boot! Anyone want to take bets that soon enough, he’ll be doing crazy hand gestures like Lelouch? Lmao! Still, I love this guy and I love his relationship with Mihoshi already. Really. These two are great and probably the number one reason why I’m sticking around for this anime in the first place!Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_03_02 PM

True love? Yes, all of us can see it from afar. It doesn’t take a genius or a side character to say it out loud ;) Us audience can figure it out by ourselves. Now, let’s see what these two have in store for us for the rest of the episode as well as future ones. Oh, did I mention I enjoy the exaggerated expressions? Hehe~Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_03_49 PM

Every tsundere must have a dere moment and here is Saku. It can’t get anymore obvious than this can it? Wow. So all this time… even though he curses Mihoshi out, he’s just lonely without her? I’m amused that despite these two working this out, one will still be in denial and the other lovey dovey. XD I can’t wait for more!Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_04_26 PM

Again, with the tackle hugs! I don’t think I can get bored of this if it’s this amusing every time! Hey Mihoshi… why don’t you just jump him already? I’ll respect you for it forever and ever and ever.Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_05_23 PM

Nothing beats mental images with apples in them. NOTHING~!Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_06_39 PM

These three members of the Astronomy Club are pretty awesome so far. A bit cliche yes but I find them endearing from a single episode and I can’t wait to see more interaction with one another. The one I want to see most is of course the girl with curly hair. I have a thing for girls with long, curly hair and yes, I’m a girl. I’m borderline lesbian at times I admit but it’s all for fun you know? But yes, I want to see that girl and I want more Mihoshi! <3Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_07_25 PM

Mihoshi, you made my day. Thank you! XD I find it hilarious. I wish I can go up to boys and draw all over their shirts and get away with it. Actually, I probably can but I don’t think I have enough guts. Well, not like Mihoshi has guts… she’s just better at these types of things than I. Haha~Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_08_01 PM

Nosebleed? Anyways, this character… even though he’s here for comedy purposes so far in this episode, I’m sure he’ll have a larger role later on. First, I need to learn his name. Two, I need to watch out for his backstory if he has one. Plus, I want to know why he’s the President and if he’s going to be awesome like Tamaki and other anime presidents. ;) Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_08_41 PM

The actual school president has such a strong Mihoshi detector that she can spot Mihoshi from a mile away doing bad things again! I love how her eyes are glowing in this scene! It really shows what an extreme character she is and you guys know me- I fall for extreme/exaggerated characters no matter what! I have a feeling I might like her. Maybe.Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_09_59 PM

Saku… since you’ve been labeled as Mihoshi’s man, why don’t you accept it like a man? XP Look at how happy she is! Let’s not be so tsundere to Chiaki’s level okay? We all know you want her but your tsundere won’t allow you to get together with her this early in the anime! :P Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_13_24 PMScreenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_13_55 PM
No, no, no! I do not want rival love interest this early in the story! Actually, I prefer not to have any rival love interest at all! It’s more interesting when the problems are created by the couple themselves rather than people around them. >__> It makes for a more interesting read like Bokura ga Ita. Heck. What am I saying? This is a romantic comedy! That’s not going to happen here! XP Also, sorry for the Bokura ga Ita plug but that is just one fabulous of an anime for all people who like realistic anime.Screenshot - 7_9_2009 , 11_19_18 PM

Oh~ Shiny! Pretty! <3

In all seriousness, I’m not sure what to expect from this anime quite yet but I do know that if the other characters are as lovable as Mihoshi (so far), I’ll enjoy this anime all the way though. Again, I’m so glad the only anime I’m blogging solo thus far is the most rewarding out of the bunch for me. I’m glad I picked this up and if anyone wants to discuss this episode with me, please do! Just… don’t spoil. Please? Thanks! And thank you for reading! I love you guys~

I KNEW IT! The female bloggers love affair with Sora no Manimani shall continue! Specifically, it’s all about Mihoshi…I’m just out of words to describe her. But since you’re commenting on Nodame, it seems that it’s about time for me to be looking into Nodame Cantabile.

But oh gawd…shame on you! Reading your post made me go into full on Sora no Manimani fangirling again! I can’t even say anything more because it’s too dangerous!

So I’m going to declare this anime official fangirl property for the season. Some cliches around, but this is one of those rare series that makes them work. A cliche done well you could say~ Plus Mihoshi is adorable and outgoing and Saku is a silly tsundere boy. It’s a match made in heaven! And that’s all I really need~ (Glomping and tackling is all great though~)

Hiya Fuyu! XD I can see exactly what you mean about female bloggers love affair with this show. :) Mihoshi is amazing from a single episode so I’m expecting great things from her. XD You should totally watch Nodame Cantabile~ Highly recommended.

Glad to see another Sora no Manimani fangirl around here. XD

I actually like shows where cliche are well-done. I enjoy that a lot. Now, I’m looking forward to the next episode even more! I want more Mihoshi and of course Mihoshi/Saku. :P It’s a good match when I’m convinced of my pairing based on one episode! Haha.

Thanks for the comment Fuyu~ <3

I loved the first episode too, watched it twice already – I somehow completely failed to apply the label to Saku (I think just too used to tsundere girls in anime), but you’re right, he really is a tsundere…

I think this is the summer series I’m looking forward to the next episode the most right now – I can’t say I’m crazy about the character designs, but they’re growing on me, I love the characters, and Saki and Mihoshi really are a great couple and fun to watch. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next ep since from the preview looks like Mihoshi is getting a rival…I just hope they don’t afflict Saku with Masaki Tenchi Syndrome and make me go all indecisive…

I so agree that Sora no Manimani is the bright spark in an other so-so Summer season. I love the characters right off the bat. Who bloody cares about oft re-used cliches when you’ve got such lovable wacky characters. I want the next episode now…muahaha.

We have a new genre! ^.^

This is a great show and instantly in my top 3 of the summer with its first episode. Mihoshi is unstoppable. Uh, literally unstoppable. And Saku is charming with some obvious good qualities. He just needs a slight push to blossom… now who is it that might provide the push???

  6. 53RG10 says:

Mii-chan’s eccentric behavior and overall cute-ness is all that was needed for me to love this anime! XD

But it also offered great random and lovable characters {Mother, anemic president}, so this anime is made of WIN! Hope it keeps it ’till the end! ;)
