Kaichou wa Maid-Sama Episode 1: Bow Before The Almighty Misaki~
Minnie: Yes, I haven’t been too active around here and yes, I am still behind in KnT but unlike SnI, I will get it done eventually. Why have I been missing? Besides health related problems, I’ve been working on a little something call this. In any case, now that that is over with, I can concentrate on blogging. Yay~
Minnie’s Overall Rating for Episode: 7/10
Minnie’s Anticipation for Next Episode: 7/10
Thoughts: The manga is better. I’m going to say that immediately to get it off my chest. I’m not so keen on the voice actress for Misaki yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get used to it like with Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke. But anyways, as for Usui, his voice actor is perfect <3 That’s how I imagine him sounding like in my head. Although I still dislike/hate Usui from the manga, I am sort of fine with him in the anime so far. I know it’s still too early to call, but if they keep this up, I might not dislike him as much as before~ But you know what? This manga is all about Misaki so let’s all bow towards her as one of the most vicious, tsundere female character to date! Overall, the first episode followed the manga to a T but there’s just something missing. Maybe I was too excited for this and it didn’t reach my expectations? We’ll see with more episodes.
Fangirling:
Already, from the first scene, we get to see our lovely Misaki at work with the three idiots. I like the background colors and effects they did with this scene too. Sweet! Go Misaki~ Kick their asses~
That’s right. In a school full of sloppy, stinky boys, there is one person who manages to climb to the top to take over this wreck of a school and set things straight again. And who is that awesome feminist? Misaki <3 That’s who.
Yup! That’s how we want it, President Misaki! Put those boys in their place! Woot!
Not only is she tough on them, she is strict as well! Misaki doesn’t give a **** about you unless you do what you’re supposed to do! Do your work, you incompetent fools~ Muahahahaha. Can’t you guys tell I’m having a blast typing this? XD
When Misaki wants something done, she wants it done RIGHT NOW. That’s right. You tell them, Misaki. You know that saying~ Leave what you can accomplish tomorrow to the next day~! <3 Mark Twain
Misaki is so scary that she makes boys cry. Lots and lots of boys cry. And you guys wonder why this girl is my hero. XP Seriously. She’s awesome~ Miss Tough President on the roll!
Because you guys are stinky~ In all seriousness, someone can write some sort of Freudian essay on why Misaki is how she is based on this anime/manga, but let’s not get into that~
That’s because guys who make girls cry… SUCK! In other news, I still worship Misaki. Are you guys irritated at my fangirling yet? Or should I up it to the next level?
Oh! Misaki’s sister. I remember liking her in the manga, but I’m not sure why. Now, I know why. Because everyone except Misaki’s father in her family are awesome for so many reasons. <3 This family~
This is where Tangerine would be happy.
Demanding in what way, Misaki? <3 Going against your usual character?
The spiraling darkness of doom… GO!
You know… when a boy is willing to listen to you chat about your life, he’s doing one of the following: 1) He likes you 2) He’s not really listening 3) He’s your best friend… For Usui, I’m placing my money on the first option… not because I read half of the manga already, but because this is a shoujo and it’s so obvious already. XD
The usual weakness of a shoujo heroine… not even Misaki can escape it. Though if you want someone who can, read Maria from Devil and Her Love Song. XD Yes, that’s an obvious plug for my favorite shoujo heroine of all time.
Misaki is just being paranoid~ But in all seriousness, I don’t like the green uniform. T_T Why can’t they go with a darker shade of green? Wahhhh.
Nope. I’m not going to even explain why. XD
Although Misaki is super strong, it seems like her powers come and go… sadly.
Oh, her. *ignores since she doesn’t like the resident fangirl in the manga*
Blushy Misaki~ You guys will see more and more of this as the anime continues. Muahahaha~
Misaki reminds me of Rin Hamada in this aspect… which is a good thing.
So Shoujo right here~ XD Kyaa worthy?
The three idiots… you guys better be an even heavier running gag in the anime than in the manga! GRRRRRRR~!
Usui comes in to save the day because Misaki is obviously too sick and can’t beat their ass since she’s not in her usual state. But seriously… I don’t like this scene and it reminded me somewhat of why I never really liked Usui. XD But let’s continue. I’ll leave my Usui ranting for a moment that is more fitting.
Okay. He’s cute here. Let’s move on. XD
Why do I feel like I’m watching Special A? And no offense to the fans but I didn’t like the first or second episode of that very much and stopped… Yeah.
This is because Misaki is queen and we should all bow down to her. Seriously. Misaki is one awesome shoujo heroine, which is sad because she still has some of the shoujo heroine archetypes… which means that I really do dislike most shoujo heroines. Urm, if it wasn’t obvious enough. XD
I realize that the OP and ED are full of spoilers that you don’t get until you get there. XD Lmao. But anyways, I thought this moment in the ED was super cute so I put it here. Plus, I need to use this screen shot for something evil. ^^;; Anyways, like I said, I wasn’t too impressed with this episode since my expectations were so high. However, the good news is that the show is solid so far and we’ll see if it can improve from here on out. Anyways, I’ll try to be on time next time but of course I always say that~

Fangirl away, doesn’t bother me
But Misaki didn’t really sell me as a “strong” person, but rather a fragile little girl who takes out her frustrations on guys who are too afraid to hit her back. She’s ultimately just a controlling antisocial who is obviously in need of a prince charming to melt her ice heart and protect her from evil boys. Fine for the female lead of a wish-fulfillment shoujo, but hardly someone I’d consider strong
In fact they really had to go the extra mile to make her sympathetic, by making all the non-lead guys even more unrealistically nasty, giving her a deadbeat dad, a dirt-poor household, putting her in a working environment that’s against her ethics, and so on. Again, fine as an obvious fantasy, but way too cheesy and convenient to be anything else.
Being a girl who’s seemingly outgrown simple wish-fulfillment shoujo, I found this a pretty weak effort and will probably read the manga to see if there’s anything original there at all or if it turns out to be another snoozefest like Kimi ni Todoke.

Hahaha, Deaky! You’re pretty dead on. XP I adore Misaki and I still do because she’s slightly nasty and bossy and all that good stuff like myself. However, her strong character really is just a facade for all the weaknesses she does have. I don’t like perfect characters anyways and Misaki is a perfect example of a character that balances both sides just right. ^^ That’s my opinion at least.
This manga/anime is pretty weak in the romance department since it’s more directed towards comedy and all that good stuff. If you’re sick of the usual shoujo, this is probably not for you. XD It’s not a cup of tea for everyone and if you didn’t like KnT (which I believe is 2x, maybe even 3x better than this), you probably won’t like this either. XD I do enjoy this manga enough… enough that I can fangirl about it on this post.
Thank you for your comment though. XD It’s really comments like yours that push me to blog further. <3
