I give it points on cute (if not somewhat twisted) shipping values between Adam and Eve~<3

Miken: While I did originally drop NEEDLESS, but I decided to give it a chance and managed to go through the entire series by the time the final episode came out. It never exceeded my expectations, which were relatively low, but it did serve as a fairly amusing typical Shounen series. Still, I wouldn’t really recommend this series unless I knew his/her niche was well within the boundaries of pointless fanservice and over the top action.

The backstory did turn out pretty good, I genuinely liked the flashbacks near the tail end of the series even though they totally blew off the flow since they just reached the top of the building and started to fight Arclight. Still, everything was completely predictable…

By the time the finale came, I gave up on being worried about the lack of logic in the series…More like by episode 2

As for characters, I did like Blade to a point, but most of it’s because of Takehito Koyasu and his amazingly powerful voice. Over time, I began to like Eve as well despite first writing her off as a failed humorous type of character. In fact, by the time she was “saved” from her mind control, I had actually started to like her quite a bit. On the other end of the spectrum, however, while Cruz did get a little backstory and depth to his character with finding out that his sister was actually working for Simeon and was the cause of the bloody carnage that was the first few minutes of the series, he really doesn’t go past being the “brains” of the party. I wanted to like him more, but there really wasn’t much of a character there to begin with. Then there’s also Uchida (I totally forgot his real name and I blame Eve), who doesn’t get any background whatsoever and fails horribly in battles. Half the time I forget he’s even there…As for Disc, while I did like her at first, she also dissolved into the background pretty quickly. I also took a liking to Seto and Solva, but there really wasn’t enough of them.

Best Big Sis EVAR? y/y

As for the villains, Arclight is more camp than threatening, Riru was just fanservice, Saten was cool for a little bit and the pretty girl brigade is just fanservice. When Aruka re-entered the plot, I developed a nice level of respect for her despite being quite unlike the loving character she was first introduced as.

Did you really expect any other kind of ending?

In the end, the series was wrapped up in a pretty generic way allowing for Arclight to be defeated with the power of cooperation! And then…Happy ending for (almost) everyone~ Yeah, it was a bit too ideal, but I can’t see this series ending any other way now that I think about it.

Needless 1-3: A somewhat Needless series…

Series Brought to you by the shady character selling Dero Doro Juice in a dark alley.

Miken: With my fever down to a merely very annoying 100F, I suppose I should get this done too. Strange how it is that I get more work done when sick than healthy…Then again, with no summary, this gets done much more quickly and with more enthusiasm.

Watching the first three episodes have left something to be desired with this series. For one, even though Adam Blade is voiced by Takehito Koyasu — which makes him gain a ton of points in my book, his design is just overboard with the “muscular man” thing while most of the other guys around are really scrawny or just as freakishly buff. Eve’s continual mispronunciation of words just doesn’t come off as cut or funny either. In fact, she comes off as just plain annoying half of the time. Even though I liked her character when she chose to take on the appearance of Cruz’s sister, she just had to go ruin that. >_>;;

While the action overall is fun to watch, it’s really formulaic. There’s there’s the whole “Adam Blade is so Freaking Awesome and Everyone Wants to Kill Him” schtick…and then there’s the antagonist of the week seemingly pounding our heroes to a pulp or pulling this amazing stunt, and finally the heroes revealing some kind of secret and ultimately winning. As for the seeming Big Bad of the Evil Corporate Company, there’s just the usual plotting. At this point, I’m going to expect some kind of generic goal…because in all counts, this show is generic.

Still, find it hilarious [and quite pitiful] that it took two thurough defeats for the enemies to realize that they could’ve justkept quiet and stalked Cruz/Eva/whoever back to the church. Sure, the first time ended with Adam showing up anyways…but still. I also found the enemy in the 3rd episode attacking the wrong Adam pretty funny too — his face when they were like “Not Arclight…He’s Adam Blade” was priceless. I guess he’s a part of the team now…since he seems to have fulfilled the criteria: make your name the title of an episode and get an embarrasing nickname from Eve.

As for the voices…I still love Takehito Koyasu~ That scene where he’s pretty much singing while waiting for Cruz to bring him food is hilarious. Aya Endo is doing a good job breaking away from her Sheryl image too — though that was obvious the exact moment I heard her as Spanky in Basquash. Errr, other than that, nothing’s really notable…but it works that way too? Nothing I can complain about anyways.

The OP was sub-par and I can only remember the guitar part at the beginning…the ED…Just…I’ll leave Steve to comment on that somewhere.

From what I’ve seen, this is just another story of a group rising up against a group in power with lots of explosions and mid-battle powerups. Normally, I’d say “HELL YEAH” but I’m just not sure about this series…If it’s going to be 13 episodes like ANN implies, then I might as well watch it to the end [though I used that mentality to watch K-ON! and was bored out of my wits for all 12 13 episodes]. If that episode count holds true, then I’ll continue to blog every 3-4 episodes…If somehow the episode count goes up, there might be some profane language and a “ragedrop”.

Miken’s Episode 1 Rating:  5/10
Miken’s Episode 2 Rating: 5.5/10
Miken’s Episode 3 Rating: 6.5/10
Miken’s Anticipation Level: 3/10

My enthusiasm is dampered by extreme fatigue…and I don’t feel like giving nice ratings this week.
