Minato... I lost all my respect for you... T_T

Minato... I lost all my respect for you... T_T

Minnie: I swore I would never review this anime again but since it’s the last episode, I should at least write a really short summary and quick thoughts on this anime overall. Let me just warn everyone ahead of time. This won’t be a pretty or really objective review. My bias might be in the way but I think it’s well-deserved. This anime is very disappointing… Onwards!

AkaSaka Episode 4~ Solo for now!

Saturday, October 25th, 2008
I NEED MORE OF THESE TWO!

I NEED MORE OF THESE TWO! Seriously...

Minnie: Episode 4 is a turning point for me. Because of Episode 1, I thought this was one of my most anticipated shows. However, Episode 3 was a disappointment and proved that this show might go down the cliche route all the way. Yuuhi is starting to bug me as a character since Episode 3, making me wish for Jun to be with his sister Minato instead. This is bad news if these two are the ending pairing. Nevertheless, I am giving Episode 4 a chance. If it’s terrific, I’ll consider continue blogging this. If it disappoints, I’ll continue watching AkaSaka but I won’t blog it anymore. Koala bear, once he’s back, can make the decision of blogging this solo or stop blogging it as well if things turn out like that. Anyways, good luck Episode 4. My decision to blog this show or not depends on this episode!

Minnie: Yes! The episode starts with my favorite two- Nishino and Tsukasa. They are suspicious about why Yuuhi and Jun walk to class together and talk about playing video games late at night. Oh man. Those two teasing friends are so much fun. Then, we get a scene in which I bet indicate that Karen has a thing for Jun. She wants to invite her classmates to a party but Jun declines. Everyone has a crush on Jun eh? In order to get Jun to go, Karen meets up with his sister Minato and thanks to Minato’s convincing, Jun ends up going. Since Karen tells them to come in casual clothes, the group of classmates invited feel they don’t belong. However, Karen comes to the rescue and allow the girls to choose any dress they like from her closet. I’m going to skip this part in my blogging since it’s basically pointless chatter among girls. But yeah, Nishino and Jun are dressed up now as well as they watch the ladies’ man they call their Sensei.

I'm a girl and not lez but this is a priceless shot...

I'm a girl and not lez but this is a priceless shot...

Minnie: Urm. Yeah. Jun/Minato for the win. XP After Jun oggles his sister, the other girls come and even force Nishino to tell them they look pretty. Anyways, after the group go on, Jun blushes after seeing Minato in an “immodest” dress and fights within himself against temptation. He goes up to Minato and tells her to wear something to cover her top and obedient, little sister agrees. Karen comes up and gets picked up surrounded by guys, flattering her to death. Skipping the girl chat in the bathroom and the kitchen scene that proves that Yuuhi can’t cook, Karen demands for the dishes but since they’re not ready yet, she goes on to make a fool of herself by telling lousy jokes entertain her guests. Meanwhile, Minato is working in the kitchen with two pretty helpers when Nago Nago brings in some rare tuna. Okay… By the way, I’m still not used to Minato’s voice when she’s not sounding cute. Ugh…

Minnie: Forgetting Karen for now, Yuuhi finds herself with these males who think they’re the bomb. But of course, being a lady and all, Yuuhi tells them off and walks off. I like Yuuhi right here though I can see her getting into a lot of trouble at this rate. Minato proves herself a wonderful cook once again as they finish up the last of the menu. She overdid herself this time around by even putting on a dissecting tuna show in front of the guest. Panty shot here as well. But yeah, Karen thinks she’s beaten by a tuna and so, doesn’t feel well and plans to win them over with “Plan B”. Sounds interesting. Plan B turns out to be Karen beating up a guy in an octopus suit. The audience and her friends are not impressed. I am not either. It’s a bad idea for the guy in the suit to choose to pick on Yuuhi because she’s already scared to deah. Worse, she accidentally turn on the fireworks finale and causes the ship to catch on fire. This is quite a dramatic turn.

Minnie: As much as I would have liked to see Jun rescues Karen and leaves with her, instead he finds out his sister and fiancee are still inside the smoke-filled ship when everyone else is out of harm’s way. Jun finds Minato first and hugs her immediately, causing her to blush. Then, he tells her to escape while he searches for Yuuhi. By the time he catches sight of her, she is drenched from the sparklers that went on at the smoke. Frightened, Yuuhi tackles Jun into a hug despite her calling him baka. The day ends with everyone’s out of harm’s way and back in school. Her classmates reassures Karen that the party was great and fun. Happily, she invites them to another one in the future, which her classmates don’t react to quite too well.

Minnie: This episode is all right. More fun stuff. Though, I didn’t laugh at all. I don’t like a lot of things about this episode but I do like a couple of interactions here and there. Overall, I wouldn’t say it’s as bad as the last episode but it’s still not that great. I think I am getting tired of this show and how it’s carrying on its popularity with its VA’s. Admittedly, I like Rie’s ladylike voice a lot but Ayano’s voice for Minato doesn’t work for me. When Minato is serious, no. When Minato is cute, yes. I used to love all the characters but at this point, most of them become stereotypical. I don’t know if I want to blog this anymore. I’ll still watch because I love Tsukasa and Minato. But Jun’s pissing me off and Yuuhi has her ups and downs. Sigh. Even though I want Minato to be Jun’s real sister, I still want her to be with him. Is that bad? In summary, good points: Tsukasa and Jun/Minato’s moments; bad points: Karen and everything else.

I swear! These two never fail to crack me up!

I swear! These two never fail to crack me up!

Minnie: I’m pretty much exhausted right now but because I have nothing better to do and I’ve been waiting for this episode to come out (less than Kuroshitsuji and Hakushaku at the moment), I’ll blog this right now. Seriously, Koala Bear and everyone else, I need to have better sleeping habits. I go to bed at 2 am almost every day. Koala is busier with school than I am so I’ll most likely blog the team-up reviews before him. Anyways, the daily Minnie rant is over and I’ll be talking about the third episode now.

Garrick (ninja edit): most likely blog the team reviews first? More like… for sure. (back to work)

Minnie: I bet I’m not the only one who went WTH at the intro before the OP. Okay… Moving along now, I realize I really want to know the identity of the pink-haired girl in the OP because it seems like she’s the creepy girl at the very beginning. Wait a second. Am I watching the wrong anime? Why is everything so dark and gloomy all of a sudden? SUGISHITA SENSEI MY HOMO TEACHER!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!! T_T But wait, I get to see Tsukasa so early in the episode, arriving with such news. I’m happy now. Koala’s probably … at me. I must be missing something here but are Tsukasa and Yuuhi really close friends? Never mind that. Continuing on with the episode, I am very amused at the Karen/Jun interaction. Haha. I sort of like Karen a lot better now, which is amusing to me at least. Wait a second again! Yuuhi’s sitting next to Jun. Last episode, she sat as far away from him as possible. Huh?! I am noticing odd details today..

Minnie: Right when Karen asks for Yuuhi and Jun’s relationship, the adorable Student Council President asks for Jun and his friends. That doesn’t happen very often at my school. I am starting to agree with a blogger I know about this show centering around a buddy to buddy system. Ah. The Student Council President has minions to do odd jobs for her like Jun and his buddies. Who wants to make bets with me on her secretly having a crush on Jun and using him like this to get closer to him? Anyone? Anyways it’s about Sugishita-sensei who is seen around the old school area before he disappeared. I am almost certain the real reason behind Sugishita’s disappearance has to do with something stupidly funny but let’s just see okay? Yuuhi and Karen stalked Jun. That’s cute. And cool, we have a scene with that creepy pink-haired girl again! Yay?

Minnie: I found myself a pairing- the two friends of Jun or Tsukasa/Nishino. It’s funny when Tsukasa say all these strange things, only to be backed up by Nishino, who usually exaggerate for the hell of it. But yeah, the abandoned building apparently has quite a history to it. And Karen is freaked out. And Nishino keeps backing Tsukasa up in everything, even splitting up. Did I mention I really really love Tsukasa and this episode simply builds up this love? “Test of courage” LMAO! I called Tsukasa purposely using the lot draw for her interior motive for throwing Yuuhi and Jun together and yup, Minnie’s right. This can only get interesting since Tsukasa got her camera ready and Jun and Yuuhi are definitely going to get into some mess because this is a romantic comedy.

Minnie: Yuuhi is scared at the creepy voice and the moving model but Jun sees through this and meets the creepy pink-haired girl who is almost guaranteed to be his later harem- Shiraishi Nagomi. I must say- she has a very interesting, dreamy voice that is reminscent of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. Btw, soon enough, Yuuhi and Jun fall down a trap down that is set up by Nago Nago. Who didn’t see this coming? Raise your hand! Anyways, when those two recover, Yuuhi beats Jun up. I seriously question these shows. In real life, if that happens to me, I’ll simply stand up and help the other person, boy or girl. Maybe it’s just Yuuhi and her sheltered personality? Anyways, they need to get out of here so yeah. Yuuhi stands on his back to reach for the trap door. Nope. Too short. He suggests she stand on his shoulders instead. I really don’t see what’s wrong with that but okay, Yuuhi agrees to it since of the situation.

Minnie: There must be a point to the two scenes of Jun’s parents. I am just dying to know what it is. Oh wait. I figured it out. Now, I must wait until the end of the anime to see if it’s true. I get it now- why the shoulder thing is bad. Yuuhi’s not standing on his shoulders- she’s sitting on his shoulders with a skirt on. Seriously, Yuuhi is such a lady. She’s going on an extreme and have a bag (?) around his head so he can’t look. This doesn’t work since he can’t breathe so instead a blindfold, which also means he has no sense of balance. Great idea Yuuhi! In the meantime, a certain little sister under the name of Minato is upset about the disappearance of her older brother.  It’s okay though since they’re leaving to Fuyu-kun to search. And WHY in the WORLD does Nago Nago get that scary background sound when she appeared?!

Minnie: The next scene is pretty explanatory- Yuuhi and Jun interaction after the shoulder thing didn’t work out. It’s bad that I’ve been reading DN Angel lately and Daisuke Niwa had a cold=warm up together scene just like one with Satoshi Hikaru. Finally, Jun gets around to explaining why she kissed her like that in episode 1, except well, it doesn’t quite work out. Yuuhi starts beating him up in a very funny manner. In any case, Sensei is down here and like I said, for a good, hilarious reason- he got kicked out of his apartment. XD The gang is found and Mom and Dad are free! For those of you who didn’t get why they show those scenes, it’s obvious a parallel between the Nagase parents and Yuuhi/Jun. For a quick conclusion- Jun and Minato are being borderline incestuous (or not!), Karen seems to have disappeared (?), Council President scolds Sugishita-sensei, Sugishita-sensei sort of knows about the fiance thing, and Nago Nago is being creepy again.

Minnie: In any case, there’s one thing that is good about this episode- we get to know the Council President’s personality better. I’ll be checking her name later and reporting. Oh, and another good thing: Tsukasa. But that’s just me of course. Pretty much everything about this episode is cliche and plain except for the whole mystery behind Nago Nago, who I find interesting. I sort of enjoyed it nevertheless because I loved the interactions Tsukasa had with Karen and Nishino. The animation is kind of off though… Not the best episode but it does leave me questioning so yeah. :)

Two Faces You Should Know From Akasaka

Two Faces You Should Know From Akasaka

Minnie: Yuuhi arrives in town, looking for her fiance, who turns out to be the person who suddenly kisses her in class for no reason. The story continues with Episode 2! The OP “Ren’ai Parachute” is beautiful and pretty catchy. I sort of like it. Again, I am not the best when it comes to music- look at Koala bear for that- however, I can say that I like this OP a lot. I’m pretty sure with more episodes, I will come to like it a bit better. Anyways, OP is a plus from me at least.

Garrick: It’s cute, upbeat, but nothing special. It’s not amazing. I do like it, though. And the images that go with the song are nice, too.

Minnie: The story behind why Yuuhi has a fiance is because it’s a tradition for her wealthy, powerful family. The Chairman wishes her to marry the son of a great man he knows. Surely, if the father is amazing, his son is as well. Wow. Doesn’t this sound familiar? (hint Goong hint) In other words, the reason for this arranged marriage is to maintain power since the person she will marry will inherit a lot of it. Makes sense…  Of course, Yuuhi like all modern girls don’t like this one bit and wishes to see how her future fiance is like. This is when an ordeal is suggested- her living in his house and then come back later to give a real assessment of his character and such. Anyways, Yuuhi agrees to this and leaves her father’s side.

Garrick: Yeah. I’ve seen this story before. We all have. It’s not very new, but it’s always interesting, especially with the characters they have in this anime. Obviously, after finding out who she has to live with, Yuuhi wouldn’t be happy. The interactions between Yuuhi and Junichi actually… seem rather… overly unaccepting, on both sides. It’s rather weird.

Minnie: Okies, all of that happen in the past. In the present time, it seems like Yuuhi still have not forgiven Jun for what he did earlier that day. I mean I wouldn’t. Jun receives a phone call from his dad, revealing to him that he has a fiancee and that he has to be nice to her. I love his dad already. Anyways, there is one thing I am glad about this anime- out of all the characters thus far, my favorite besides his schoolmate is his younger but act like his older sister. She’s responsible, thoughtful, and very nice. I can’t help but like her the minute I met her last episode. This episode continues to prove that. Yuuhi and Jun are all right too but out of the trio, I have to pick the younger sister, whose name I will remember soon, as my favorite.

Garrick: Minato, Minnie. It’s Minato. Anyhow, I do love Minato, too. I just wish I had a younger sister like that. Instead, I have two younger brothers that I have to take care of, cook food for, and buy stuff for. I know how she feels… in a less extreme way.

Minnie: The following morning, Yuuhi wakes up with bags under her eyes. She denies it as a result of a horrible sleeping place, but emphasizes the point that she is disappointed that everything that has happened so far isn’t a dream, but reality. Yes, Yuuhi, reality is very cruel. You know what’s the most ironic thing? She actually did have feelings for him, but thanks to his stupidity, they are no longer there (or so she says). And being the wonderful younger sister she is, the younger sister stops the fight. My most favorite character Tsukasa in the entire show makes her appearance alongside Nagomi and is as delightful as always- giving nicknames and probably writing exaggerated stories about Jun. Oh btw, for that classroom scene, I hope everyone notices that Yuuhi is sitting as far away from Jun as possible. :P

Minnie: Also, I really really like Yuuhi’s voice. It’s a lot nicer than Taiga’s voice, which is expected but I like it more anyways. Anyways, next scene is grocery and yes, I remember her name now thanks to the subs. Minato-san! Yuuhi is so adorable when she finds herself in the supermarket. Even more so when she starts naming off French dishes to Minato when Minato asks what she likes to eat. Okies, I give in. Yuuhi is wonderful with her princess aura and her thirty types of spices! She excels in chemistry too. XD This grocery scene not only makes Yuuhi more likeable, but Minato (if you haven’t loved her already like me). She is like my mom- able to pick out the best vegetables and know prices with a glance. Awesome. Yuuhi calls it “special skills”. Hehe.

Garrick: Yeah, in the whole second half of the episode, I found Yuuhi absolutely adorable. And as you all should know by know, I LOVE adorable characters… and she’s up there for the cutest one of all. Just from this episode. A tendency to push buttons… =P That’s rather cute. Although, a fuse can’t short thirty minutes after intense usage (a.k.a. Yuuhi’s intense button bushing), but that’s technical, and I regret bringing it up already.

Minnie: Even though I am a bit disappointed at the lack of Tsukasa, I am glad that they include a lot of priceless Minato and Yuuhi moments, especially those in the kitchen. For those of you who haven’t figure it out by now, the last episode had this action-packed sequence in the beginning of Episode 1. The man in it is actually Minato and Jun’s father. His mother is like his father as well. What a funny family! I love how when the light went off and Jun accidentally touched Yuuhi’s breast, Minato just blinked and left to check on the circuits. XD Minato’s on Yuuhi’s side and gives her advice on tackling Jun down. Oh Jun. You little perv. Yuuhi likes to press buttons. XD ^_^;;

Minnie: Minato and Yuuhi really do get along well. It’s been proven this entire episode. I thought the director would go further into the Yuuhi/Jun relationship but instead, he went further with the growing friendship between Minato and Yuuhi instead. There is a bit of background information from Minato on Jun to Yuuhi. I like this scene a lot, and that little comment about Minato not being Jun’s real sister. I hope that will proven false in the future. I hate the new girl vs childhood girl love triangle. I don’t want that to happen in this series since I really like it thus far. The ending and last scene is adorable- very cute Yuuhi.

Garrick: Very cute? MORE than very cute. WAY more than that. Way way way way WAY more. That is the ONLY reason I love Yuuhi as much as I do right now. Her interactions with Minato and this one scene. Of course, we’ll just leave out that we’re only 2 episodes in. Her interactions with Junichi have felt a little… overly bitter, on both sides.

Minnie: As for the ED “Sweet Gift”, it’s pretty cute and sweet. It’s all right. I don’t like it personally but I can see why others might like it. Anyways, remember all that overwhelming praises I had for this anime in my blog? This episode only adds more to it. I really really really love this anime because it’s cute, funny, and charming. More than anything, I love the characters. For storyline, I am a bit skeptical but I am willing to overlook that for the amazing characters and beautiful graphics. My favorite Tsukasa will probably get more lines next episode. This episode is pure gold for Minato and Yuuhi. I love Minato and Yuuhi almost equally right after Tsukasa. I hope Jun and other characters get more development, like that Student Council President and Karen. Again, I have nothing but praises for this anime so I can’t wait for the next episode! It really is such a nice watch.  Though, I might be biased since I am willing to watch animes as long as I love the characters. For me, characters>>>plot and anything else any day. Haha.

Garrick: I don’t feel like commenting on (or in this case, agreeing with) everything else in this post, so I’ll just say… plot>>>characters and anything else anyday. Haha. *sighs* (is still mad at you dropping a tale of memories)
