Skip Beat Episode 3~ Solo
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Minnie: Unlike last time with Tales, I actually did watch the whole episode before making this review. If it is a lot different than the usual, I apologize ahead of time. Anyways, the episode continues where it left out from last episode- with Kyoko with a knife and a radish. It’s amazing how this talent of arranging the turnip’s peel into a flower started way back when Sho’s parents took her in. She mastered this art secretly in order to impress Sho’s parents, not to become a Chef. Of course, in the end, when Kyoko presents the flower to the judges, they are all impressed, especially the President.
Minnie: Kanae (I believe that’s her name?) talks to Kyoko as they proceed to the next round. She tells Kyoko that she might have impressed the judges with her peculiar trick but she is just an eyesore and that she will be kicked out by the next round. Oh, Kanae also calls Kyoko a hippo. The thing about me and Kanae is that I don’t dislike her. I find that she, like Ren, are only acting like that to cover some bitterness on their part. For those who read my story, Kanae is pretty much like Claire. I might be wrong because I haven’t read the manga but that’s what I get from her. Kanae doesn’t seem like a bad person to me, just a rival that Kyoko has to face later on. A rival that will help her succeed in her quest. Still, being called a hippo and detergent is not very nice is it?
Minnie: This is the round, according to Kanae, that will fail a lot of girls because the President especially arranges this one himself. Kyoko is the last in line and is sitting next to Kanae, much to her dismay. After each girl receives the cell phone, they give off various, yet strange reactions to it. This leaves the audience like myself wondering what the hell they are listening to. Then, it comes to Miss Perfect Kanae’s turn. She listens to the whole conversation on the other line before tears flow from her eyes and she mutters, “I’m so glad”. Such a reaction is of course natural to actresses and I can see Kanae going far in this anime. However, when it is Kyoko’s turn, she listens to a male who sounds exactly like Sho, who is egotistical but realizes his mistake and asks for a second chance in a relationship. At first, Kyoko impresses the judges with her smile and says of course she’ll take him back when she finally reveals her true self and throws the cell phone on the ground, telling the bastard to go to hell.
Minnie: After this move, which stunned everybody, the results are put up for those who will continue to the next round. Kanae easily passes with that performance. A couple of girls are in tears and Kyoko is surprised that her name is NOT on the list. This makes her furious and yet, Kanae tells her that she predicted this and walks off. Poor Kyoko. I know that failure brings success later on but this is pretty hard on her because she’s so confident she would make it through. It’s all right Kyoko. =/ Of course, right after she fails, she seeks a certain man name Takenori to talk over what she has done wrong. He tells her that there is one thing she lacks- love. Kyoko tells him that how can she love strangeless strangers who she never met before in which he retorts with that if she wants to be a star, she must want to be loved too right? This depresses her.
Minnie: I must say I love that couple Kyoko is staying with. The wife is sweet and nice while the husband is strict, yet supportive. I am glad there are good people like them to take care of Kyoko. That night, she thinks about her unrequited love for Shou and how her wanting to be loved only brought her despair. With that thought, she cries loudly and bitterly all night long. That following morning, Takenori calls the President Lory to talk about her in which it seems like Lory wants to give her a second chance for Kyoko to renew herself. I don’t know by what method yet but we’ll find out by next episode. As for Kyoko, she wakes up and stares a purple stone that has always helped her pull through in the past. With the husband’s encouraging words that she is a determined person, she is off to take another shot at becoming a star.
Minnie: Overall, I like this episode. Kyoko’s talent is unique and cool to watch. I like both Ren and Kanae so far and I especially love Lory and the old couple. Takenori is awesome as well. Actually, I believe I like the whole cast minus Sho because he’s a bastard! Kyoko is growing on me because I can see her potential as a character to bring in a lot of character development throughout this whole anime. I really want to see her realtionship with Ren later on as well. Ren seems almost too perfect for her for me at this point despite his first appearance and his short flashback in this episode. I can’t wait for the next episode! This is so exciting.
